1910 yılında Sultan Reşat’ın saltanatı döneminde, İstanbul’ da Taksim Kışlasında bir tayyâre, bir de balon gösterisi yapıldı. Bir Fransız pilotun kullandığı hafif tayyâre manevra yaparken bugünkü Büyük Postane civarında düştü, ancak pilot kazayı hafif sıyrıklarla atlattı. Diğer gösteride balonu kullananın kimliği tespit edilememekle birlikte, her iki gösteride Meşrutiyet sonrası ülkede yaratılan sanal çağdaşlaşma faaliyetlerinin bir göstergesi olarak ele alınabilir. Napolyon döneminde Fransa’da ve Amerikan İç Savaşı sırasında da askeri amaçlı olarak kullanıldığı bilinen balonun İstanbul halkına, padişah huzurunda sunulması, batı’ da olağanüstü gelişen savaş teknolojilerinin ülkemizde de artık var olduğu imajının, halka geçici de olsa moral vereceği düşüncesi ile İttihatçıların girişimleriyle gerçekleştirildi.
Gerçekten son derece zor hayat koşulları altında üstelik her girilen savaştan yenik çıkılan, siyasi kargaşaların ayyuka çıktığı bu ortamda İstanbul semâlarında böyle bir balonun görülmesi, halk arasında geçici de olsa bir sevinç ve coşku, hatta ümit yarattı. İttihatçılar da bu “fenni inkişaf” ın kendi vatanperverâne siyasetlerinin bir neticesi olduğu kanısını halka ulaştırabildikleri için pek memnun oldular. Hiçbir ciddi siyasi konuya karışmayan ve kuruluşundan bu yana ilk defa gerçek Parlamenter monarşinin temsilcisi olan yaşlı padişah da ülkenin ulaştığı bu teknolojik gösteriden ülkesi adına gurur duydu.
A Hot Air Balloon In Taksim
A plane and an air balloon show was carried out in İstanbul at Taksim barracks in Sultan Reşat’s reign period in 1910.
